Um dos candidatos à Presidência do Equador, Fernando Villavicencio foi assass1nado a tiros nesta quarta-feira (9/8) em Quito, capital do país. A informação foi confirmada pela família do postulante ao cargo de chefe do Executivo.
Villavicencio fazia um comício político em uma escola na capital equatoriana quando foi atingido pelos disparos. O local estava lotado por apoiadores.
Segundo pesquisa publicada pelo jornal “El Universo”, Fernando Villavicencio aparece como 5º colocado na corrida pelo Palácio de Carondelet, sede do governo.
Na última segunda-feira (6/8), funcionários do Conselho Nacional Eleitoral divulgaram que estavam recebendo ameaças de morte, entre eles a presidente da instituição, Diana Atamaint.
De acordo com Diana Atamante os funcionários “estão expostos a essas circunstâncias, não apenas a receber ameaças, mas também à violência política”.
O atual presidente do Equador, Guillermo Lasso, afirmou, por meio das redes sociais, que o gabinete de segurança irá se reunir para dar uma resposta ao crime. “O crime organizado chegou muito longe, mas o peso da lei vai cair neles”, escreveu.
