Submarino que levava turistas aos destroços do Titanic desaparece no Atlântico
A Guarda Costeira dos EUA lançou uma operação de busca e salvamento, nesta segunda-feira (19), para um submarino que desapareceu com cinco pessoas a bordo em uma expedição aos destroços do Titanic.
As autoridades receberam um telefonema no domingo informando que o navio de pesquisa canadense Polar Prince havia perdido contato com o navio submersível e estava atrasado na verificação de suas comunicações, de acordo com a porta-voz da Guarda Costeira, tenente Samantha Corcoran.
“No momento, estamos apenas tentando usar todos os esforços e trabalhar com parceiros internacionais para tentar obter recursos para localizar com segurança todos os cinco indivíduos”, disse ela.
O submersível desaparecido perdeu contato 1 hora e 45 minutos após a descida, disse a Guarda Costeira.
A empresa que conduz a viagem, Oceangate Expeditions, disse que está “explorando e mobilizando todas as opções para trazer a tripulação de volta com segurança”.
